Florida Boy Loses Leg in Shark Bite Off Florida Keys

Incident Underscores State's High Number of Shark Attacks

Bodycam Footage, 911 Call Reveal Details of Recent Miami-Dade Shark Bite

Over the weekend, a 10-year-old boy had a portion of his leg amputated after a shark attack while snorkeling off the Florida Keys. The incident highlights Florida's alarming number of shark bites, which exceeds the global average.

Authorities have released bodycam footage and 911 call audio from another recent shark bite in Miami-Dade County, where a bull shark attacked a spearfishing man. Additionally, a Florida angler sustained a foot injury in a similar incident on Friday.

Despite the low risk of shark bites, Florida has consistently ranked first in the world for the number of attacks recorded, according to the Florida Museum.

These incidents serve as a sobering reminder of the ever-present danger posed by sharks in Florida waters. While swimming and snorkeling remain popular activities, it is crucial for beachgoers to be aware of their surroundings and take necessary precautions to minimize the likelihood of encounters with these formidable predators.
